FAQ
Frequently asked questions.
Everything about motors, batteries, installation, maintenance and warranty. Question not listed? Get in touch and we'll answer your question.
Which motor fits my boat?
That depends on length, weight, hull shape and how you sail. The GM series runs from 5 to 80 kW, for boats from 5 to 60 metres. Larger projects are built to specification, up to 1 MW. Try the system finder for a first advice, or plan an introduction.
Will the motor fit in my engine room?
Usually, yes. Our motors are compact and light, from 32 kg, and connect to your existing propeller shaft. We come by to take a look before you decide anything.
How is the motor connected?
To your existing propeller shaft, with standard flanges and couplings. No custom work needed, no rebuild of your drive line.
Does the propeller need to be modified?
We almost always have it reworked so it matches the electric motor exactly. An electric motor runs differently from a diesel. With the right propeller you get the most efficiency and sailing pleasure out of it.
How far can I sail on one charge?
That's determined by your battery pack, not your motor. We build modularly, in steps of 5.3 kWh. That way we match the capacity to your sailing area, not to a standard size.
Can I extend my range with a generator?
Yes. What's possible depends on the type and power of the generator. We work that out together, so the generator and the battery pack fit each other.
What do I get delivered?
Motor, controller, battery pack, display and all cabling. Designed as one system, built and installed by us. No loose parts you have to get working yourself.
What does a complete system cost?
Motors start at € 5,700 and run up to € 32,800. Add the battery pack, plus installation. Every boat is different, so you get a concrete total price after a short conversation. No surprises afterwards.
Who installs it?
That's your choice. We have 23 installation stations across the Netherlands, but work just as well with your own boat builder. Prefer to do it yourself? You get all components, the instructions and a system check afterwards. With full warranty.
How much maintenance does it need?
Next to none. No oil, no filters, no exhaust, no winter service. Check the battery and the connections once a year. Beyond that, you just sail.
How long does the motor last?
Our systems are built for 100,000 running hours or more, without maintenance. In practice that means: a lifetime of sailing.
How long does the battery pack last?
6,000 cycles on LiFePO4 cells. That's fifteen years of daily sailing, with 80% capacity still left afterwards. Stable, safe cell chemistry. Deliberately chosen for on board.
What does the warranty cover?
Five years in full, on motor, controller and battery pack on 100% electric systems. No separate conditions per component. And one point of contact that knows your boat, from advice to service.
Does it work on a sailboat?
Yes, and you charge under way. Under sail, the propeller drives the motor as a generator. Combine that with solar or wind and you hardly need shore power any more.
