De Stadsboot
A former lifeboat, fully converted into an electric tour boat for the waters of Breda. De Stadsboot combines the rugged character of a lifeboat with silent, fully electric propulsion. A fine example of how existing vessels can be given a sustainable second life.
“A second life for a boat full of character, with silent electric propulsion that perfectly suits cruising through the city.”
The story
How it went.
For De Stadsboot Breda, a former lifeboat was fully converted into an electric tour boat. The boat was given a completely new life and now cruises the canals of Breda, where silence, comfort and experience take centre stage.
For the electric propulsion, a 17.5 kW electric motor was chosen, combined with a 31.2 kWh battery pack. A system well suited to its use as a tour boat, where reliable and above all silent cruising matters most.
With a length of 8.5 metres and a weight of around 4,500 kg, De Stadsboot is a sturdy vessel. Thanks to the electric propulsion, the boat can cruise through the city without the noise and vibrations of a traditional combustion engine, letting passengers enjoy Breda and its surroundings in complete peace.
The boat is ES-TRIN certified and is used professionally as a tour boat. This project shows that electrification is not only interesting for new boats, but also for making existing vessels sustainable and putting them back to work.
